Dietetics and Coaching

I combine evidence-based nutrition, behavior change and a practical, person-centered approach in my dietetics practice. I help people improve their nutrition in ways that are realistic, sustainable, effective and tailored to their individual needs and goals.

Community Nutrition and Food Systems Work

Previous Work

My work in community nutrition and food systems began with a focus on improving access to nutritious food and addressing food insecurity at the community level. Over the course of more than a decade, I have worked across food rescue, food access, community nutrition and food systems initiatives.

I have led and supported programs that connected surplus food with communities experiencing food insecurity, including work that resulted in the redistribution of more than 3 million pounds of nutritious surplus food. My experience includes program development and management, community partnerships, nutrition education, staff and volunteer coordination and working with organizations to improve food access while reducing food waste.

These experiences gave me a firsthand understanding of how the systems surrounding food (i.e. availability, affordability, policies) shape people’s ability to nourish themselves and their communities.

Current Work

I continue to engage in community nutrition and food systems work alongside my dietetics practice. My current work includes participating in community-based food policy initiatives through organizations like the Jefferson County Food Policy Council and contributing to councils, conversations and projects focused on food access, food security and healthier, more equitable food systems, such as Hunger Free Golden.

My perspective as a registered dietitian, along with my background in food systems, allows me to look at nutrition not only from an individual perspective, but also within the broader communities and systems that influence health.

What’s Next?

I hope to continue building connections between dietetics, community nutrition and food systems through projects that improve food access, strengthen food security and promote healthier and more sustainable communities, especially in Jefferson County through my leadership roles.

I am particularly interested in opportunities that bring together nutrition, food justice, sustainability and community health as well as finding ways for nutrition professionals to contribute to food-system change beyond the individual client.

Additionally, I plan to continue advocating for SNAP and other policies that support food and nutrition security, recognizing their vital role in supporting our communities.
